The people behind the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody Grand Taking Ages are back with a Steam page after Sony pulled it from the PlayStation Store.

Grand Taking Ages, according to its creators, is a game management simulator where players run a game development studio.

Last month, despite using what looks like art created by AI to make the ongoing wait for Rockstar’s GTA 6, including a list of unlikely gameplay features, as well as fake rewards from video game websites, Grand Taking Ages VI appeared on PlayStation. Store with a release date of May 2025. Users are even able to account for the game on the PlayStation.

Of course, Sony pulled Grand Taking Ages VI from the PlayStation Store, but now it’s back on Steam after what its creators say is a major adjustment to make Valve’s project legit.

Developer Violarte told IGN that Grand Taking Ages has gone through a “thorough” review process, and has now been approved for release on Steam. On the Steam page is a brand new trailer and updated screenshots, all leaning in the parody angle its developers are using as a reason for the project.

So what has changed? As well as dropping the “VI” in the game’s title, Violarte changed the game’s logo, description, and overall presentation “to clearly differentiate Grand Taking Age from its original inspiration, GTA 6, and emphasize its unique direction.” Gone is the art that looks a lot like Rockstar’s iconic GTA image, in a place where the art looks like little Like Rockstar’s iconic GTA image.

But Grand Taking Ages still faces general AI. According to Steam’s AI rules, Violarte revealed on the Steam Grand Taking Ages page that it uses “AI services” for audio streaming – and a cursory look at the trailer will show how well it works.

Violarte said it took a different approach with Valve to get games on Steam than it did with Sony to get games on the PlayStation Store. “We approached Steam differently by engaging with their team about our game concept before officially submitting it,” a representative told IGN. “This allows us to get their perspective early on, ensuring compliance with their recommendations.”

The company pointed to other projects such as Grand Theft Hamlet, a documentary about two working actors who tried to produce Hamlet within GTA Online, as evidence that GTA parodies should be protected from being taken down. “These examples show how parody can celebrate and entertain existing genres while still being creative and engaging,” Violarte said.

Violarte now wants Grand Taking Ages back on the PlayStation Store. “We truly believe that, with recent updates, Grand Taking Ages is now ready to be listed on the PlayStation Store,” it said. At that point, Violarte said it sent a request to Sony indicating that the changes it made to the game had caused Valve to approve it for release on Steam. “We strongly believe that there will be no problem with Sony this time, due to the adjustments we have made,” Violarte said.

Grand Taking Ages’ appearance on the PlayStation Store calls Sony’s curation process into question, but Valve’s open-door policy on Steam is well-documented. The likes of Steam, various app stores, and even the Nintendo eShop are full of scrolling, and, increasingly, generative-AI is being used to make it.

GTA 6, meanwhile, launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the fall of 2025.
