From everything I saw during my few hours, the weirdness of the series is cranked up to 11 here. That doesn’t mean the fight doesn’t have its flaws, though. Blocking and dodging took a bit of getting used to, and enemies could range from all-out pushy to challenging enough that I saw the game through the screen more times than I expected in a Yakuza game. However, once I figured out how to effectively change combat styles and take advantage of every tool and skill I had, combat became a challenging but rewarding experience.

Set Sail

Naval combat is a welcome addition to the Like a Dragon universe. While some games tend to overdo the complex naval battles, like Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii goes with a “less is more” approach to its naval warfare parts. My ship has a few ways to destroy enemy ships, the side of my pirate ship is made up of short-range launchers that can do a lot of damage as long as I’m close to my target, while the side of my ship is long-range. – A big gun. Shooting out of these two options other than the face-off machine gun is how I spend most of my time in ship-to-ship combat. The third option is to leave my ship and use Majima’s missiles. While this doesn’t do as much damage as the other options, it’s a lot of fun to jump on my ship and fire at enemy ships.
