If you like streaking torpedos, extreme maneuvers, and streaking tracers of streaking semi-real space combat like you’ve seen in shows like The Expanse, then the best game for you just got better. Nebulous: Fleet Command is a heavy-hitting strategy simulation game about spaceships attacking each other in realistic radar engagements, electronic warfare, and in-depth spaceship control. Its latest and biggest update, released this month, added an aircraft carrier full of small fighters, cavalry, scouts, and bombers.

The Hefty Carriers update brings with it two new large carriers: an escort-carrier-sized vessel for both the Alliance and Protectorate and a hulking Moorline container liner serving the role of big ‘ol fleet carrier. With Nebulous’ trademark early customization, each of those ships can carry its own wing of each type of fighter, unique to each faction, that can be adjusted between missions with different loadouts. You can send your fighters out on a single mission as a screening force, then upgrade them mid-match to attack enemy speedboats with missiles, which will then instantly feed into Nebulous’ dizzying missile configuration system.

It’s certainly a power move of updates that also include new things for missiles, new tutorials for carrier operations, and new improvements to AI. “Competitor AI has been completely rewritten to give experienced players a run for their money,” said developer Eridanus Industries. It’s definitely a boon for those who like to play in teams against the AI.

Released about three years ago into early access, Nebulous has been continuously updated into a real-time space combat sim. You put your fleet into battle all customized according to your own wishes, and many strategies and tactics in Nebulous are based around information warfare to find out what your enemy’s weapons are and how to beat them yourself – and how. Collaborate on whatever weird stuff your allies have brought up in multiplayer.

The latest update, of course, has improved the metagame of the good and the best and all – you may ask, should I equip my small battleship? Which missiles are best for them? How do I protect my huge and beautiful battleship that I spend all my points on from enemy battleships? Why am I bothering with bombers when my exotic space rebels are happy to collect A cargo ship full of missiles and radar for a suicidal run?
